Stability and co-operation
We had a lot of fun today working together. We had to cooperate to balance together and then problem solve to get our whole team across the court without touching the court!! We only had 3 lino tiles to stand on! It took a lot of thinking. We co-operated really well because we were all working to achieve the same thing. Well done Matai hub. What great problem solvers.

Our wharenui
We are learning about the wharenui on a Marae. After talking about the different parts, we went and tried making our own structure with all kinds of materials.
Skipping
We are learning to skip on the spot in the Matai hub, and to try several different moves. Can you skip with us at home? It is great for developing our coordination.
How to help...
(beginners): Use a piece of long rope. Remind us how to hold the skipping rope, move it over our heads THEN jump. Our feet should be glued together when we jump.
All levels
- Have a skipping competition with us - who can skip for the longest?
- Put on some cool music in the background (we added 'Battlefield' by Jordin Sparks to this)
- Google 'Jump Rope for Heart Skipping Videos' to get inspired with some different moves.

How is our Marae like/different to our school?
We labelled our room. We are the tangata whenua here in this room - this is our place. Visitors who come are called manuhiri. Our kura...school is made up of of all of our area. A marae is a group of buildings. A marae is built to represent a body.

The end of the term
What a great job you have done this term team! We have made such a big improvement in how we manage ourselves and our learning. Your teachers (and parents I am sure) are very, very proud of you.
Completed inquiry projects will appear here and on your uSpace over the next couple of weeks.
Have a wonderful holiday. Enjoy looking through your sample books and don't forget to log on to Ultranet. Your videos are uploaded. Any problems...please let us know.

The first post of 2015!
It is almost the end of term 1 already. We have had a very busy term adapting to our new way of running things. However, we have had an awesome term together, with students and teachers alike enthused about learning.
We look forward to wrapping up the term with the school swimming sports (full of both fun and serious races). This will give our students a chance to show their skills.
One of the highlights of this term was our visit to Whiskey Gully, a great opportunity to see our local area and go for a bush walk. This fantastic trip (thanks to parents and the Hughes from Blue Mountain Nurseries) helped students to hook into our inquiry this term based around the forest and the Matai tree.
We have been investigating adaptations of birds, what makes a tree a tree (and how a tree works), and what a tree has to do with our school values.

Next week we wrap up the inquiry as we put together a presentation showing our inquiry learning this term.
